Salmo 114

Salmi – Capitolo 114

Inno pasquale

[1]Alleluia.

[4]i monti saltellarono come arieti,
le colline come agnelli di un gregge.

[5]Che hai tu, mare, per fuggire,
e tu, Giordano, perché torni indietro?
[6]Perché voi monti saltellate come arieti

Psalm 114

When Israel came out of Egypt,
Jacob from a people of foreign tongue,
Judah became God’s sanctuary,
    Israel his dominion.

The sea looked and fled,
    the Jordan turned back;
the mountains leaped like rams,
    the hills like lambs.

Why was it, sea, that you fled?
Why, Jordan, did you turn back?
Why, mountains, did you leap like rams,
    you hills, like lambs?

Tremble, earth, at the presence of the Lord,
at the presence of the God of Jacob,
who turned the rock into a pool,
the hard rock into springs of water.

Comment to the film: the solemn story of Israel’s exit from Egypt is sung by the majestic, triumphal notes of the two Horns in an exciting dialogue with the Orchestra of the splendid “Allegro” of Vivaldi’s concert in F Major:

When Israel came out of Egypt, the house of Jacob from a barbarous people, [2] Judah became his sanctuary, Israel his dominion. [3] The sea saw and withdrew, the Jordan turned back, [4] the mountains skipped like rams, the hills like lambs of a flock.
