Salmi – Capitolo 55 

Preghiera del calunniato

[1]Al maestro del coro. Per strumenti a corda. Maskil. Di Davide.
[17]Io invoco Dio
e il Signore mi salva.
[18]Di sera, al mattino, a mezzogiorno mi lamento e sospiro
ed egli ascolta la mia voce;
[19]mi salva, mi dà pace da coloro che mi combattono:
sono tanti i miei avversari.
[20]Dio mi ascolta e li umilia,
egli che domina da sempre.

Per essi non c’è conversione
e non temono Dio.
[21]Ognuno ha steso la mano contro i suoi amici,
ha violato la sua alleanza.
[22]Più untuosa del burro è la sua bocca,
ma nel cuore ha la guerra;
più fluide dell’olio le sue parole,
ma sono spade sguainate.

[23]Getta sul Signore il tuo affanno
ed egli ti darà sostegno,
mai permetterà che il giusto vacilli.

[24]Tu, Dio, li sprofonderai nella tomba
gli uomini sanguinari e fraudolenti:
essi non giungeranno alla metà dei loro giorni.
Ma io, Signore, in te confido.

[17] I call on God and the Lord saves me.

[18] In the evening, in the morning, at noon I complain and sigh and he listens to my voice;

[19] he saves me, he gives me peace from those who fight me: my adversaries are many.

[20] God hears me and humbles them, he who has always dominated. For them there is no conversion and they do not fear God.

[21] Everyone has stretched out his hand against his friends, has violated his covenant.

[22] His mouth is smoother than butter, but he has war in his heart; His words are more fluid than oil, but they are drawn swords.

[23] Throw your trouble on the Lord and he will give you support, he will never allow the righteous to totter.

[24] You, God, will plunge them into the grave bloodthirsty and fraudulent men: they will not reach the middle of their days. But I, Lord, I trust in you.
