Il fedele non soccomberà
[1]Al maestro del coro. Su «Jonat elem rehoqim».
Di Davide. Miktam. Quando i Filistei lo tenevano prigioniero in Gat.
[2]Pietà di me, o Dio, perché l’uomo mi calpesta,
un aggressore sempre mi opprime.
[3]Mi calpestano sempre i miei nemici,
molti sono quelli che mi combattono.
[4]Nell’ora della paura,
io in te confido.
[5]In Dio, di cui lodo la parola,
in Dio confido, non avrò timore:
che cosa potrà farmi un uomo?
[6]Travisano sempre le mie parole,
non pensano che a farmi del male.
[7]Suscitano contese e tendono insidie,
osservano i miei passi,
per attentare alla mia vita.
[8]Per tanta iniquità non abbiano scampo:
nella tua ira abbatti i popoli, o Dio.
[9]I passi del mio vagare tu li hai contati,
le mie lacrime nell’otre tuo raccogli;
non sono forse scritte nel tuo libro?
[10]Allora ripiegheranno i miei nemici,
quando ti avrò invocato:
so che Dio è in mio favore.
[11]Lodo la parola di Dio,
lodo la parola del Signore,
[12]in Dio confido, non avrò timore:
che cosa potrà farmi un uomo?
[13]Su di me, o Dio, i voti che ti ho fatto:
ti renderò azioni di grazie,
[14]perché mi hai liberato dalla morte.
Hai preservato i miei piedi dalla caduta,
perché io cammini alla tua presenza
nella luce dei viventi, o Dio.

1 Be merciful to me, my God,
for my enemies are in hot pursuit;
all day long they press their attack.
2 My adversaries pursue me all day long;
in their pride many are attacking me.
3 When I am afraid, I put my trust in you.
4 In God, whose word I praise—
in God I trust and am not afraid.
What can mere mortals do to me?
5 All day long they twist my words;
all their schemes are for my ruin.
6 They conspire, they lurk,
they watch my steps,
hoping to take my life.
7 Because of their wickedness do notc] let them escape;
in your anger, God, bring the nations down.
8 Record my misery;
list my tears on your scrolld]—
are they not in your record?
9 Then my enemies will turn back
when I call for help.
By this I will know that God is for me.
10 In God, whose word I praise,
in the Lord, whose word I praise—
11 in God I trust and am not afraid.
What can man do to me?
12 I am under vows to you, my God;
I will present my thank offerings to you.
13 For you have delivered me from death
and my feet from stumbling,
that I may walk before God
in the light of life.
Commento al filmato: le note ritmate, imponenti, a tratti dolcissime dello splendido “Scherzo: Allegro energico” della Sonata in Fa min di Brahms, cantano la paura e la speranza confidente di Davide prigioniero dei Filistei
[4]Nell’ora della paura,
io in te confido.

dal versetto 8, l’Organo della spettacolare “Toccata” da Dorische Toccata & Fuge di Bach, canta con note di incredibile potenza e solennità il rendimento di grazie per la liberazione dai nemici:
[13]Su di me, o Dio, i voti che ti ho fatto:
ti renderò azioni di grazie,
[14]perché mi hai liberato dalla morte.
Hai preservato i miei piedi dalla caduta,
perché io cammini alla tua presenza
nella luce dei viventi, o Dio.

Commentary on the film: the rhythmic, imposing, at times very sweet notes of the splendid “Scherzo: Allegro energico” of the Sonata in F min by Brahms, sing the fear and confident hope of David prisoner of the Philistines
[4] In the hour of fear, I trust in you. [5] In God, whose word I praise, in God I trust, I will not be afraid: what can a man do to me?
from verse 8, the Organ of Bach’s spectacular “Toccata” from Dorische Toccata & Fuge, sings with notes of incredible power and solemnity the thanksgiving for deliverance from enemies:
[13] Upon me, O God, the vows I have made to you: I will give you thanks, [14] because you delivered me from death. You saved my feet from falling, so that I walk in your presence in the light of the living, O God.
