Quando Saul mandò uomini a sorvegliare la casa e ad ucciderlo.
[2]Liberami dai nemici, mio Dio,
proteggimi dagli aggressori.
[3]Liberami da chi fa il male,
salvami da chi sparge sangue.
[4]Ecco, insidiano la mia vita,
contro di me si avventano i potenti.
Signore, non c’è colpa in me, non c’è peccato;
[5]senza mia colpa accorrono e si appostano.
Svègliati, vienimi incontro e guarda.
[6]Tu, Signore, Dio degli eserciti, Dio d’Israele,
lèvati a punire tutte le genti;
non avere pietà dei traditori.
[7]Ritornano a sera e ringhiano come cani,
si aggirano per la città.
[8]Ecco, vomitano ingiurie,
le loro labbra sono spade.
Dicono: «Chi ci ascolta?».
[9]Ma tu, Signore, ti ridi di loro,
ti burli di tutte le genti.
[10]A te, mia forza, io mi rivolgo:
sei tu, o Dio, la mia difesa.
[11]La grazia del mio Dio mi viene in aiuto,
Dio mi farà sfidare i miei nemici.
[12]Non ucciderli, perché il mio popolo non dimentichi,
disperdili con la tua potenza e abbattili,
Signore, nostro scudo.
[13]Peccato è la parola delle loro labbra,
cadano nel laccio del loro orgoglio
per le bestemmie e le menzogne che pronunziano.
[14]Annientali nella tua ira,
annientali e più non siano;
e sappiano che Dio domina in Giacobbe,
fino ai confini della terra.
[15]Ritornano a sera e ringhiano come cani,
per la città si aggirano
[16]vagando in cerca di cibo;
latrano, se non possono saziarsi.
[17]Ma io canterò la tua potenza,
al mattino esalterò la tua grazia
perché sei stato mia difesa,
mio rifugio nel giorno del pericolo.
[18]O mia forza, a te voglio cantare,
poiché tu sei, o Dio, la mia difesa,
tu, o mio Dio, sei la mia misericordia.

1 Deliver me from my enemies, O God;
be my fortress against those who are attacking me.
2 Deliver me from evildoers
and save me from those who are after my blood.
3 See how they lie in wait for me!
Fierce men conspire against me
for no offense or sin of mine, Lord.
4 I have done no wrong, yet they are ready to attack me.
Arise to help me; look on my plight!
5 You, Lord God Almighty,
you who are the God of Israel,
rouse yourself to punish all the nations;
show no mercy to wicked traitors.c]
6 They return at evening,
snarling like dogs,
and prowl about the city.
7 See what they spew from their mouths—
the words from their lips are sharp as swords,
and they think, “Who can hear us?”
8 But you laugh at them, Lord;
you scoff at all those nations.
9 You are my strength, I watch for you;
you, God, are my fortress,
10 my God on whom I can rely.
God will go before me
and will let me gloat over those who slander me.
11 But do not kill them, Lord our shield,d]
or my people will forget.
In your might uproot them
and bring them down.
12 For the sins of their mouths,
for the words of their lips,
let them be caught in their pride.
For the curses and lies they utter,
13 consume them in your wrath,
consume them till they are no more.
Then it will be known to the ends of the earth
that God rules over Jacob.
14 They return at evening,
snarling like dogs,
and prowl about the city.
15 They wander about for food
and howl if not satisfied.
16 But I will sing of your strength,
in the morning I will sing of your love;
for you are my fortress,
my refuge in times of trouble.
17 You are my strength, I sing praise to you;
you, God, are my fortress,
my God on whom I can rely.
Commento al filmato: Davide è minacciato da Saul che vuole ucciderlo e rivolge a Dio una supplica ardente cantata dalle armonie struggenti di questo affascinante brano di von Biber The Glorious Mysteries: Sonata No. 13 – The Descent of the Holy Ghost:

ma dal versetto 14 le note dello splendido spumeggiante “Allegro” della Sinfonia in Do di Vivaldi, innalza un esultante inno di lode alla Misericordia di Dio:

poiché tu sei, o Dio, la mia difesa,
tu, o mio Dio, sei la mia misericordia.

Commentary of the film: David is threatened by Saul who wants to kill him and makes a burning supplication to God sung by the poignant harmonies of this fascinating piece by von Biber The Glorious Mysteries: Sonata No. 13 – The Descent of the Holy Ghost:
[2] Deliver me from my enemies, my God, protect me from attackers. [3] Deliver me from those who do evil, save me from those who shed blood. [4] Behold, they threaten my life, the mighty attack me.
but from verse 14 the notes of the splendid sparkling “Allegro” of Vivaldi’s Symphony in C raises an exultant hymn of praise to the Mercy of God:
[18] O my strength, I want to sing to you, for you are my defense, O God, you, oh my God, are my mercy.
